In the election just past, voters gave Barack Obama the biggest vote of no confidence rendered any U.S. president since perhaps Herbert Hoover. The Republicans elected to Congress need not be overconfident. The government needs to address more than the foreign policy mess made by Obama. Economic recovery remains sluggish at best, and the general good is not helped by the government’s chronic coddling of the richest sector.
If the Republican right wing persists in repeating such Tea Party foolishness as the government “shutdown”, the voters will turn against it as fiercely as they turned against Obama. The public is disgusted, and not merely with the President.
