These lyrics are to a song I’ve written for a performance scheduled for Christmas week.  It’s based on a lifetime of winters in central New York.

A Lyric

Winter is winning.

The cold comes too soon.

Snow piles are spinning

‘Cross a dark afternoon.

But just in our view

The light makes a new

When snow climbs up to the chimney’s snout,

You grab your coat, and then start digging out.

You’re glad that the season is here.

And till it snows again, your driveway is clear.

Big storms visit right before the chill.

Living in this climate, we all know the drill.

Through all those snow drifts you steer.

The season of light is here.

Yards disappear

Like grief from the year

‘Cause snow’s like a blank page

You write on next year.

So lace those boots up, and plough the way.

The day we’re beginning is a longer day.

The fact is: we will persevere.

The season of light is here.

Here’s looking to a better year.

The season of light is here.w
